Dental implants have revolutionised the field of dentistry, providing a long-term solution for individuals with missing teeth. Unlike traditional treatments such as dental bridges or dentures, dental implants offer numerous advantages that make them a preferred choice for many patients.

Benefits of Dental Implants - Improved ComfortAdvantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants offer many advantages for people seeking a permanent solution for missing teeth:

  1. Natural Look and Feel: Dental implants closely resemble natural teeth in appearance and function. They are custom-made to match the size, shape, and colour of surrounding teeth, providing a seamless and natural-looking smile.
  2. Improved Oral Health: Unlike dental bridges, which require the adjacent teeth to be altered, dental implants do not affect the surrounding teeth. This preserves the integrity of the remaining teeth and promotes better oral health in the long run.
  3. Durability and Longevity: Dental implants are designed to last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Unlike dentures, which may need frequent adjustments or replacements, dental implants offer a permanent solution for missing teeth.
  4. Preservation of Jawbone: Implants stimulate the jawbone just like natural tooth roots, preventing bone loss and preserving the facial structure. This helps maintain a youthful appearance and prevents the sunken look often associated with missing teeth.
  5. Convenience and Comfort: With dental implants, there are no restrictions on diet or activities. Unlike removable dentures, which may slip or cause discomfort while eating or speaking, dental implants provide a stable and secure foundation for chewing and speaking confidently.

Comparison with Other Treatments

  1. Dental Bridges: Dental bridges require the alteration of adjacent teeth for support, which can weaken them over time. Additionally, bridges may need replacement every 5-10 years, whereas implants offer a permanent solution.
  2. Dentures: While dentures are a more affordable option initially, they require regular maintenance and may need to be replaced every 5-7 years. Dentures also do not prevent bone loss and may become loose or uncomfortable over time.
  3. Implant-Supported Dentures: Implant-supported dentures combine the stability of dental implants with the convenience of removable dentures. However, they may be more costly than traditional dentures and require a longer treatment process.
  4. Cost Considerations: While dental implants may have a higher upfront cost compared to other treatments, they offer superior long-term value and durability. Many dental practices also offer financing options to make implants more accessible to patients.
  5. Success Rate and Reliability: Dental implants have a high success rate, with up to 98% of implants lasting for 10 years or more. With proper care and maintenance, implants provide a reliable and predictable solution for missing teeth.

Procedure of Dental Implants - Phase 2FAQs

  1. Are dental implants painful? Dental implant surgery is typically performed under local anaesthesia, so patients may experience some discomfort during the procedure. However, most patients report minimal pain or discomfort during the recovery period.
  2. How long do dental implants last? With proper care and maintenance, dental implants can last a lifetime. However, individual factors such as oral hygiene habits and lifestyle choices may affect the longevity of implants.
  3. Can anyone get dental implants? Most adults with good oral and general health are suitable candidates for dental implants. However, factors such as smoking, gum disease, and certain medical conditions may affect eligibility for treatment.
  4. How much do dental implants cost? The cost of dental implants varies depending on several factors, including the number of implants needed, the complexity of the case, and the location of the dental practice. On average, a single dental implant may cost between £2,000 to £4,000.
  5. What is the success rate of dental implants? Dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%, making them one of the most reliable options for replacing missing teeth. Factors such as proper oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups can help maintain the longevity of implants.

I had a private emergency appointment booked by mistake in error. The private dentist looked at my missing filling and said it was only half missing. Told receptionist that a was on Universal Credit and the £ 73 charge was wavered by Private dental as it was a mistake by receptionist cancelled NHS six months check up. Appointment was rebooked to see my usual NHS dentist.

My husband and I have been patients at Westcliff Dental Practice for many years and have always had good treatment. However for the past 15 years or so we have been under the care of Daanish Chatteroo who has been excellent. I am a very nervous visiting the dentist but Daanish is always very kind, patient and puts me at ease. Thank you Daanish and all the staff at the practice.

It was my first appointment with Negin, the most pleasant of dentists, from Hungary.,she was so thorough and pleasant. I am so happy to be continuing my treatment with her. I have been with this practice over 25 years and have been disappointed since my long term practitioner left in Covid, but this has restored my trust. Thank you Negin. Brenda
